Summary

Hermogenes is mentioned once in 2 Timothy 1#1:15, where Paul writes: "You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes." He exemplifies the broader desertion Paul experienced from Asian believers during his final imprisonment.

His Greek name, Hermogenes ("born of Hermes"), was common in the Hellenistic world. Scripture provides no other information about him. See Phygelus for the full discussion of their abandonment and its contrast with Onesiphorus's courageous loyalty.

The later apocryphal Acts of Paul and Thecla (2nd century) features a Hermogenes who opposed Paul, but this pseudepigraphal tradition cannot be reliably connected to the biblical figure.
