Distant Shores Media

The goal of Distant Shores Media (DSM) is to equip the global church by developing openly licensed biblical resources that can be freely distributed and translated into any language. This model allows translation of the Bible and discipleship resources to become immediately available to language groups that otherwise may never have such an opportunity.

For an overview of the impetus behind the ministry, see Tim Jore's presentation on this page: Faster. Farther. Cheaper Better.

Tim wrote a book called the Christian Commons, which details the global need for discipleship resources and why the current model is not sufficient to keep up with the demand.  You can read it online, download a PDF, put it on a Kindle or eReader, or you can order a hard copy.

The unfoldingWord Open Bible Stories project is really gaining traction.  If you have an Android phone check out the unfoldingWord app in the Play store.

Lastly, actual translation work and the developing projects are worked on at door43.org (select English on the main page).  As an example, the Translation Academy project, which aims to create resources to help people learn about translation concepts is at http://door43.org/en/ta.

If you want to be directly involved in what is going on, I suggest signing up at Team43 and joining whatever groups you are interested in.
